Dandenong Students visit UNIQLO

UNIQLO visit Dandenong HS

On May 25, 35 Year 11 and 12 students from Dandenong High School visited the UNIQLO Store at Chadstone Shopping Centre as a part of Ardoch’s Pathways Beyond School program. All students are a part of the school’s VCAL program.

The program aims to build children’s understanding of options beyond their school completion, including both further study and employment. Ardoch provides partner schools with pathways activities such as mock interviews with workplace volunteers, speed careers sessions, workplace visits and “Meet the Professor” activities.

UNIQLO, a global fashion retailer, has partnered with Ardoch to support the program.

During the visit, the UNIQLO staff spoke to the students on a range of topics, including the history of UNIQLO as a company, the technology of different items and how they are made, the daily routines of the store, and the variety of career pathways UNIQLO offers its employees.

Students were particularly engaged whilst learning to the range of different people that are involved in an item being made and sold, and when staff members shared their own journeys and personal anecdotes of how they ended up working at UNIQLO, and their prior school and career experiences. This encouraged the students to ask questions about how they could find a career pathway at the company.

The students also received a tour of the shopping centre, which exposed them to the relationship between store tenants and landlords, the process by which large centres are built and how retailers interacted with one another. This was a valuable experience for students as they were formed a broad understanding of how shopping centres operate.
