STEM Support

STEM is the commonly used term for the group of subjects comprising Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths. Increasingly, there is a recognition that STEM subjects are critical to the future of children in Australia. As Australia transitions into a knowledge economy, children’s ease with STEM subjects will define their ability to function productively as adults within our society.

According to the Office of the Chief Scientist of Australia, many of the fastest growing jobs of the future are going to be STEM-related (Next Generation Skills for the Next Generation Workforce 2013). The Australian Industry Group recently estimated that 75 percent of the fastest growing occupations in Australia already require STEM skills and knowledge. The Group also found that for a quarter of employers, the biggest barrier to their recruitment was a lack of applicants with STEM skills (The Future of Australian Apprenticeships 2016).

To ensure that children in disadvantaged communities are prepared to meet these future challenges, Ardoch has developed a suite of programs to foster their STEM skills in fun, engaging and relevant ways.
