Child safety

Children have the right to be safe and protected from harm. There is no situation where it is okay to touch, hurt, or harm any person – especially children – in any way.

We want you to feel safe – to live, to learn, to grow, to speak up, and to be yourself. If you don’t feel safe, or you are worried about someone you know, don’t keep it to yourself, speak to a trusted adult.

If you or someone you know is in danger, call Triple Zero (000).

You have a right to be safe.

Physical safety

No one has the right to hit you, shake you, burn you, use weapons or objects to hurt you, or touch you in a way that makes you feel uncomfortable.

Mental and emotional safety

No one has the right to put you down, neglect your needs, threaten you, frighten you, shame you, or withhold food or medical care. No one has the right to make you do or say things that make you feel uncomfortable.

You have the right to be protected from all forms of harm.

Remember, children have the SAME rights as adults, you have the right to:

  • Safety and protection
  • Health
  • Education
  • Privacy
  • Having a say in decisions that affect you
  • Legal rights
  • To be who you are

If you feel like someone has violated your rights, talk to a trusted adult like a parent or teacher. You can also talk to Kids Helpline on 1800 55 1800 and they can give you advice.

Wellbeing

It can be hard to concentrate and learn when you feel stressed or anxious, have low confidence or little motivation. There are lots of things you can do to help yourself when you’re feeling this way. By working on your wellbeing, you may notice that other things become a little easier to deal with – like schoolwork or friendships.

Ardoch delivers programs that help schools to support your wellbeing through fun excursions and incursions. You can also find some great resources on this page.
