Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Ardoch. 


Volunteer screening requirements

Ardoch is strongly committed to Child Safety and has a comprehensive screening and induction process for volunteers. As part of the process, you will be required to:

  • Successfully complete online training modules

  • Receive a Working with Children Check in your state

  • Be able to meet the vaccination requirements for working in a school in your state

  • Agree to abide by the Child Safety Policy and Code of Conduct


If you attend more than two volunteer events or are participating in Literacy Buddies or Numeracy Buddies, you will also be required to:

  • Complete a National Criminal History Check (Ardoch pays for this) and,

  • Complete an International Criminal History Check if you have resided overseas for 12 months or more in the past 10 years


Ardoch volunteers must be over the age of 18.

Volunteer Role


Summary of volunteer roles

  • Literacy Buddies: A letter-writing program where a group of volunteer Big Buddies (usually from the same workplace) are matched with and write to a class of student Little Buddies.

  • Numeracy Buddies: A correspondence program where a group of volunteer Big Buddies (usually from the same workplace) are matched with a class of student Little Buddies to discuss maths problems and the real-world application of maths.

  • Mock Interviews: Volunteers do practice job interviews with students and provide constructive feedback to them.

  • Learning Through Lunch: Volunteers have lunch with a table of students, using the opportunity to share about their experience in employment and discussing careers and study with the students.

  • Speed Careers: Volunteers share their career story as part of a panel of speakers to inform students of the career opportunities available to them.

  • Industry Visit: Volunteers involved in the visit from school to their workplace.

  • Other Volunteer role: I am involved in another initiative with Ardoch outside the programs above and have been advised to select this option

Learning Through Lunch

Volunteers have lunch with a table of students, using the opportunity to share about their experience in employment and discussing careers and study with the students.

Working with Children Check

As an Ardoch volunteer you are required to have a WWC check in the state in which you are volunteering. 

This is referred to as a Blue Card in QLD





Criminal History Checks

Ardoch actively promotes the protection and wellbeing of children and young people. All staff, contractors, and ongoing volunteers at Ardoch are required to undertake a National Criminal History Check. Ardoch organises this through a provider called CrimCheck. Ardoch covers the cost of this check and further details will be provided about how to apply.

In accordance with Ardoch’s Child Safety Policy, we request that volunteer applicants disclose the details of any past charges and/or criminal offences for which they are currently under investigation. An applicant will not be automatically precluded from a volunteer placement on the basis of having a criminal record. Ardoch will examine the relevance of an individual’s particular record in relation to the requirements of the volunteer role. All information supplied by the applicant will be treated with strict confidentiality.  


International Police Checks
If you have resided overseas for more than 12 months in the past 10 years, it is also a requirement to undertake an International Police Check for the country/countries where you lived.

Communication

Ardoch will communicate directly with you regarding the program you have applied for and for opportunities relating to other programs you have expressed interest in. You will be able to change your interest settings if your situation changes.

If you give permission, you will also receive general communications from Ardoch, including newsletters, information about our events and fundraising activities and other Ardoch updates. If you do not wish to be contacted by Ardoch except for specifically related to the program, please select no.
